Mr. Hafiz al-Asad, the President of the `Arab Republic of Syria,

I have received your message today in which you have expressed your condolences on the latest sad tragedy. I appreciate your sympathy and kindness which you have shown to our nation and to the families of the martyrs of this sad incident. It is hoped that through unity and solidarity, the Islamic countries will maintain their independence in the face of the plotters and colonialists. They will emerge victorious in the fight between Islam and atheism. May God's peace and mercy be upon you.
