Speech [Explaining the blessings of the revolution]

I congratulate all Muslims on the auspicious birth anniversary of the seal of prophets and his honorable son Imam Sadiq. I beseech God to bless all Muslims.

Today, in this small, yet luminous and great meeting all schools of Muslims including our Sunni and Shi`ite brothers, universities and theological seminaries and different strata of people have assembled. This is an example of the blessings of the Islamic Revolution God has bestowed upon all of us. By His grace we have became brothers. «1» The universities, that used to be apart from seminaries, are today united with them. It is hoped that this unity will remain forever Sunni and Shi`ite brothers have initiated the unity of expression and I hope this unity will remain till the end.

We should pay close attention to what our enemies analyze them and see on which aspects of the Muslims they put emphasis, and know that there is something harmful for Islam and Muslims in everything they regard as significant. We should find out from their words and deeds what they want and what we must do. As you see in the last few centuries thanks to increasing communication; all people in the world have become like a single family. You should find out how the great powers been able to rule over other countries and plunder their resources, and then based on what ways and methods they have chosen, we should try to find ways to counteract them.

When we look at Iran we see that lots of efforts have been made to implant dispute between two wings: the university and the clergy. If these two unite, things will be reformed in the country. How hard have they tried to implant dispute between these two! One could not mention the name of a clergy in university and the reverse was equally true. This was the result of their massive propaganda intensified by our inattentiveness. These problems were due to our inattention, and we received the heaviest blow from disunity. The university ran the country and when it became corrupt, the whole country followed suit. We saw how in the last century, especially the last fifty years, they strove hard to implant dispute between Sunni and Shi`ite brothers. They tried every means possible and drove these two wings apart to the extent that each school apostatized the other and each one set up its own party in the country. This is not just confined to this country; in all countries these two schools were pitted against each other. The parties set up by these two schools and their leaders were unaware of what they were doing. Each party was an enemy of the other and each stratum was an enemy of the other. So we see that the thing which they insist on the most is that we should not come together, we should not be brothers to one another and that Muslims, wherever they are should be of different forms. One form is nationalism with terms such as Persian, `Arabic and Turkish to signify the differences. Nationalism in this sense means that every country whatever its language is stands up against another country with another language; this confuses the basic mission of the messengers. All the messengers, from the first to the Seal of Prophets called people to brotherhood, unity and fraternity. In contrast to them, a strata that was educated in the West or the East and wittingly and unwittingly raised the issues of nationalism and instead of focusing on questions such as what Muslims and the Islamic nation should be like. They, gave rise to things such as what `Arabs, Turks, Persians should be like.

Various colors, this is white, that one is black and the other one yellow all these issues cause schism by these satanic superpowers that want to cause rupture among nations and individuals. On the other hand, we see that Islam leans on fraternity in different expressions. The believers and brothers «2» we learn from this verse that there is nothing among believers but brotherhood; everything about them can be summed up in brotherhood. The superpowers realized that if this brotherhood were to come true, they could not interfere with other countries.

You can look at the last few years when the Iranian nation aided by God, rose up and the million-strong people, whether clergy or university people, worked side by side actively. The entire nation became united. What a miracle they have worked! Look at what miracle did this brotherhood make in such a small environment as Iran with a small population against colossal populations. The reason for this miracle is the unity of expression and brotherhood; this fraternity and brotherhood which were created in Iran along with this great change harmonized all the strata. The Sunni with their Shi`ite brothers, the university has become one with the religious study centers and brought Turk, `Arab and Persian. Look at what this unity in a limited country with a limited population has done to the superpowers. It is not without a reason that all the mass media of almost all countries, definitely that of the superpowers and some other countries are trying hard to project a bad image of Iran to Muslims, to present the Islamic Republic as something bad. Propaganda against Iran has engulfed the whole world. What has happened that Iran has become the center of propaganda and other attacks? There is no other reason except the fact that in Iran the sense of brotherhood has been realized to a very large extent and they have seen that with this unity and harmony in Iran and that other Islamic countries are catching on is a big peril that can destroy all the interests of the superpowers. If they did not have this fear that Iran could spread this contagion of brotherhood to other countries and if countries were on their own and Iran on its own and there were not any brotherhood between Iran and others, they would not have attacked this much. All this attack whether propaganda or otherwise is because they have seen how a little harmony has cut short their hands from here. If this harmony is to be realized and God willing it will happen, the hands of the superpowers would be cut off from the resources of Muslims and from all the oppressed people of the world. This unity of expression which has materialized in the country has made other countries contact us. Others are also trying to brothers with Iranians. I hope that governments will wake up, look into issues and see whether all Muslims are together and is each one independent in his country. Which one is good for all Muslims to be united under the banner of Islam or for each country to be against the other? What can help overcome the problems of all countries and those of the Muslims, is it brotherhood among Muslims that God has recommended or disunity? Can governments better drive out these invaders when they are united or when they are disunited?

We, the nation of Iran, the government of Iran and all Iranians extend our hands to all Muslims and ask them to join this nation and strengthen brotherhood. All Muslims should have a bond of brotherhood. We extend our hands to all Islamic countries and want them to join us and be brothers with us, as Islam has said so that we overcome our problems. They should not think this unity in Iran is harmful to them. Iran is an Islamic country and wishes welfare for all Muslims. Iran sees all Muslims as their own brothers and we want all Muslims, governments and nations to be united for this goal we have: Islam.

We are not after anything; we want neither government in the sense the superpowers want, nor power in that sense. We all want to follow the glorious Qur'an and the beloved Islam which will run everything for us. Learn from the unity that exists among all sects and groups in our country. W have been able to solve all the problems imposed on us from all sides thanks to this unity. Look how unity in a small population and in small environment has drawn the attention of the world to it and how it scared the superpowers. If this power of about thirty million joins the power of the Islamic countries with a population of one billion, no power can control this massive flood of one billion people.

According to the decree of God, we declare our brotherhood to all Muslims of the world, the governments of the Islamic countries, the Muslim nation whatever their school is and wherever they are. We declare we do not have any intention of encroaching upon any Islamic or non-Islamic state. We want all the Islamic countries to be brothers to one another just like the Iranian government and nation, which are in full agreement with each other, unlike the former regime where the Iranian government was against the nation and the nation against the government. Therefore, as soon as the nation found harmony, the superpowers could not keep the one who was their unconditional agents.

We want all countries to have this kind of harmony we have here. All Muslims should be one hand against the aliens. Everyone in his own environment with whatever government and whatever sect, should be independent. Muslims should be brothers and friends to one another; they should relate to each other; armies of all Islamic countries should support one another. If it were not for disunity among Muslims Israel with its little population would not dare to disregard Muslims. If there were no dispute among Islamic governments and Islamic countries, America could not rule over all countries and take away all their resources. We plan to keep our country independent, to live free and to come to terms with all Muslims of the country and with all inhabitants of the country. We wish to be united with official sects, to stick together and to preserve our country. No power can harm us if we have harmony in this small environment and with this population.

Let the gentlemen coming here from different countries for the blessed Unity Week study the situation in Iran. Let them listen to the mass media of the superpowers and their followers and study the situation in Iran. Look at the situation and see if what they say is true. Does the government of Iran kill infants? Does the government of Iran kill Muslim children? Is the government now shaky and bankrupt? Has it lost control of everything? Has the Iranian nation turned their back on the Islamic Republic? Is there any dispute among the nation? Let them study and let them go to the theater. If all of them cannot go, each group can send a representative to see what Saddam has done to our country. Let them see the ruins this pervert has done to the country at the command of superpowers. Let them see our refugee camps and let them go and see our war zones and see our army, our revolutionary guards and the entire nation who are our revolutionary guards. Let them see everything; they then can reflect their observations. You, who have come here of your own free will and have lightened up this country, go and see these things. Is there chaos in the provinces? Is everything turned upside down? Has Iran become so shaky that it cannot stand on its own feet? Or is this just propaganda spread against Muslims of the world so that they will not be impressed by this great harmony in Iran? You who have come here can reflect these issues when you go back to your countries. If the mass media listens to you and if newspapers reflect your words, go and put forward the events in Iran. The miracle that happened in Iran and the great change that took place are unique. Brothers are sitting beside one another; everyone is united and, thank God, the armed forces of Iran are strong and powerful and Iranian nation is patient and strong. They acted on the Qur'anic verse;" the believers are brothers to one another." All of you should take notice of this verse. Let all stick together around the string of God «3». Let all be brothers so that in heaven-brothers over his lordship and be brothers. If you are not brothers here it is not clear whether you will be in heaven. I beseech God to familiarize all Muslims of the world with their duties and to reconcile between all Islamic governments and their nations. Make all Islamic nations and governments brother. Cultivate brotherhood between all the clergies and the universities in the entire Islamic world. I thank all the different groups for coming here. I cannot mention their names individually; I can not thank them individually; I can only thank the Housing Foundation for taking a great deal of trouble. Today, Mr. Rasouli «4» who is informed of issues, told me that they are very patient servants who have done lots of important things. I thank all the brothers who have come from different countries to take part in Unity Week. I beseech God to grant health and happiness to all of you.
