Reply to letter of a young adult

جلد ۱۹ صحیفه امام خمینی (ره)، از صفحه ۴۵۲ تا صفحه ۴۵۴
[Dear Hajj Aqa Rasouli,
After greeting and voicing my attachment, I apologize for the inconvenience of making two demands fulfillment of which will not bring you much trouble given your relationship with the Imam. I hope you will not spare me. I wish God Almighty would not withhold His boundless favor and mercy in the Hereafter.
As a Muslim following the Imam and as a crusader and brother of a martyr, my first demand is to convey my greetings to the great jurists and dear Imam.
Tell his holiness that by the majesty of God we are alive in this foreign land in the hope of watching you in television and your life-giving words that invigorate our depressed souls. Convey to him: When Commander of the Faithful ascended the pulpit, he said:" Ask me before I depart from among you; I am more familiar to celestial ways than terrestrial ones." Then an `Arab man asked the Imam how many the number strands of my beards are. This Arab can never be forgiven. If he and the like of him asked the unfathomable ocean of the knowledge of the Imam, they would have contributed to guidance and prosperity of Muslims and believers in coming generations, but they shirked their responsibility. This objection is applicable to many Muslims living in time of the holy Prophet (s) and the Immaculate Imams (`a). Since we do not want this objection to be applied to us, we expect the Imam to enlighten the people, particularly the younger generation who have become awakened thanks to the revolution launched by the Imam. This revolution has honed on the people's eagerness to get acquainted with brilliant Islamic sciences and fiqh (jurisprudence) and the path of Immaculate Imams. Beg the Imam to share his observations of the unseen world and mystical intuition with the younger generation, as this revolution has strongly impressed us. Do not deprive us of the luminous knowledge of dear Islam, as we will complain against him if we are competent to associate with him in the Hereafter. We were content with the Qur'anic interpretation of the Imam, but it was unfortunately cut. It is hoped that the way the Imam deems it advisable to quell the younger generation's thirst for knowledge by his Christ-like miraculous breath. Truth-seeking nature of the younger generation including me has been awakened in this revolution and God willing Imam Khomeini will calm this roaring sea of thirsty people who might otherwise be led astray or idling away their time.
As for my second demand:
In Azar 27,1362 AHS, I sent a letter to the office of Imam Khomeini on the occasion of the day of unity between clerics and students. In the letter I put forward three philosophical questions and one explicit and important proposal on such a unity. Since I have written in detail in that letter, I will withhold repetition. Of course, my letter was not responded. I phoned the Imam's office and I was told that the letters are kept on file and will not be brought to the Imam's attention. «1» My request is that bring the letter to the attention of the Imam. If he deemed it advisable, publicize my proposal and provide the answers in a few lines in his own handwriting which will be kept most willingly and which will solace my spirit and serve as source of encouragement. I make this request as family of the martyr and hope that the Imam will oblige us and not deprive us of this request given the respect and credit Imam Khomeini accords to martyrs and their families. I also promise to be competent and deserving of this favor.
Of course, I know it is an undue request from the Imam and I am not worthy of this favor, I view His Eminence greater than my request. I apologize for this lengthy letter. Finally, I earnestly request you not to refrain from fulfilling this demand of a humble fellow and take this trouble. I hope this will also be one of the blessings of your visit to this province. I wish God will grant you good in this and the next world. In advance, I consider myself indebted to you. Goodbye! Wishing dignified longevity and health of the Imam and reappearance of the Promised Savior (May God hasten his reappearance) and victory of the combatants of Islam and cure of the war wounded and disabled of the revolution and the imposed war and promotion of the rank of the dear martyrs of Islam.
With thanks,
Your humble brother, `Ali-Rida Aqa-Khani

May God Almighty make prosperous our honorable people who have spared no sacrifice in the cause of Islam and bring the very dear combatants to final victory. I do not forget to pray for all of you. May God's peace be upon you!

«۱»- In addition to tens of official and administrative letters and numerous reports coming in from ministries and organizations and domestic and foreign personalities, every day hundreds of letters are forward by ordinary people containing different contents ranging from expression of attachment and support for the Imam and the Islamic establishment to personal problems and complaints of individuals and organizations. Naturally, excluding the letters sent by political and cultural officials and detailed administrative accounts, it was impossible for Imam Khomeini to study all ordinary letters given the volume of preoccupations and meetings and various sessions. Nevertheless, each of the letters was studied in the office on the same day. What was relevant to the Imam's office- by virtue of the different communique released by the office and the list of the remaining ones were every day classified under over ۳۰ different subjects including criticism and insult and the statistical report submitted to the Imam.
